Preparations
In just a few months time, we will help prepare you both physically and mentally for your Kili-Challenge. In March we organise the first gathering. We will introduce you to War Child, Mountain Network and your fellow Kili-Challengers. We provide you with fundraising tips and take you on a preparatory weekend in the Belgian Ardennes. We'll do everything in our power to make sure you're well-prepared once you step foot on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Departure dates & costs
After months of preparation, you will board a plane to Tanzania. The two journeys that are planned at this moment are: 10 - 19 January 2024 en 20 - 29 January 2024. The trip will last ten days of which you'll spend seven on the mountain itself. The price of the expeditions is €3.145 p.p. This includes accommodation, meals, tour guides, permits, transfers and all preliminary gatherings. It does not, however, include flight fares, equipment, visas, vaccinations etc. Your total costs will round up to approximately €5000.
We hear you think: that's not cheap. You're right - you could do it for less. But that is often at the expense of the local employees, who are so very important to make your climb go smoothly and safely. We therefore choose to work with one of the few local organizations in Tanzania that pays their professional guides, cooks and porters fairly. And we think that is. The organization is affiliated with Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). They actively check that our travel partner adheres to the agreements made. In this way we also work together for socially responsible travel.
What we offer
- A weekend in the Belgian Ardennes to prepare yourself optimally;
- An experienced and certified Dutch tourguide who will take care of medical checks and guide the group to the top
- A local guide per every two participants – so a lot of personal support and attention;
- Your own toilet facilities, so good hygiene & facilities.
- You'll be well-looked after and receive nutritious meals;
- Medical supplies, emergency oxygen and a satellite phone in case of emergencies;
- No shortcuts: we take the long route – this is more expensive due to permits in the national park, but is well worth it as it allows you to get used to the altitude. These few extra days significantly increase your chances of reaching the summit and reduce the changes of altitude sickness;
- We do everything we can to minimise the Kili-Challenge's impact on the climate. Of course, we cannot avoid CO2 flight emissions, but we can compensate for this – and we do so by investing in ecological projects in Africa through JustDiggit. More information about this and other measures can be found in our Kili-Challenge FAQ.
Raising money for conflict-affected children
In addition to the above costs, we challenge you to raise at least €2.400 in funds to support children in war. That sounds a lot. However, in the previous years, every single participant was able to accomplish this. Even better: the average fundraising amount per person is about €4.500! And don’t worry, we will help you every step of the way with promotional materials, personal coaching and a workshop on fundraising.
Reaching the summit
We don’t call it a challenge for nothing: it will be tough. But also, absolutely amazing. The Kili-Challenge calls on all of your abilities and challenges you to bring out the best in yourself. Hundreds have climbed the Kilimanjaro with us. Tired but deeply satisfied, they watched the sunrise over the mountains from the top of the Kilimanjaro. Thanks to these Challengers, every year we can help hundreds of conflict-affected children. Will you follow in their footsteps?
