Preparations

In just a few months time, we will help prepare you both physically and mentally for your Kili-Challenge. In June we organise the first of at least three gatherings. We will introduce you to War Child, Mountain Network and your fellow expedition travellers. We provide you with fundraising tips and take you on a preparatory weekend in the Belgian Ardennes. In short: We'll do everything in our power to make sure you're well-prepared once you step foot on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Departure dates & costs

After months of preparation, you will board a plane to Tanzania. The journey takes place between January 9 and 18 2022, and will last ten days of which you'll spend seven on the mountain itself. The price of the expeditions is 2.835 EUR p.p. This includes accommodation, meals, tour guides, permits, transfers and all preliminary gatherings. It does not, however, include flight fares, equipment, visas, vaccinations etc. Your total costs will round up to approximately 4.000 EUR.

We can hear you think: that's not cheap. You're right - you could do it for less. However, we choose to work with one of the few local organisations in Tanzania that pays its employees fairly. Many other organisations do not pay the people who carry the bags, tents, kitchen utensils etc; they only receive a tip from the travellers. That doesn't sit well with us, and we hope neither with you.

What we offer

  • A weekend in the Belgian Ardennes to prepare yourself optimally;
  • An experienced and certified Dutch expedition leader who carries out daily medical checks and guides the group to the top;
  • One local guide per every two participants – so a lot of personal support and attention;
  • Your own toilet facilities, so good hygiene & facilities.
  • You'll be well-looked after and receive nutritious meals;
  • Comprehensive medications, a satellite phone and emergency oxygen;
  • No shortcuts: we take the long route – this is more expensive due to permits in the national park, but is well worth it as it allows you to get used to the altitude. These few extra days significantly increase your chances of reaching the summit and reduce the changes of altitude sickness;
  • We do everything we can to minimise the Kili-Challenge's impact on the climate. Of course, we cannot avoid CO2 flight emissions, but we can compensate for this – and we do so by investing in ecological projects in Africa through JustDiggit. More information about this and other measures can be found in our Kili-Challenge FAQ.

Raising money for conflict-affected children

In addition to the above costs, we challenge you to raise at least 2.400 EUR in funds for children in war. That’s steep. However, in the past six years, every single participant was able to accomplish this. Even better: the average fundraising amount per person is about 4.500 EUR! And don’t worry, we will help you every step of the way with promotional materials, personal coaching and a workshop on fundraising.

Reaching the summit

We don’t call it a challenge for nothing: it will be tough. But also, absolutely amazing. The Kili-Challenge calls on all of your abilities and challenges you to bring out the best in yourself. Hundreds have climbed the Kilimanjaro with us. Tired but deeply satisfied, they watched the sunrise over the mountains from the top of the Kilimanjaro. Thanks to these Challengers, every year we can help hundreds of conflict-affected children. Will you follow in their footsteps?

Other questions?

Please take a look at our Kili-Challenge FAQ. Specific questions about the trip, expedition and (physical) preparations can be directed at Mountain Network, our partner organisation that facilitates and supervises the trip.
