My wife and I are the proud parents of three beautiful children (Robin 13, Tim 11 & Naomi 8).

We live in the wonderful and peaceful Amsterdam IJburg.

My children enjoy their education and love the freedom they have and they believe it to be normal.

But for many children this carefree life is not possible because of the violence of conflict.

These children also have the right to education, and freedom and their dreams for the future.

Children are always innocent!

This is why I am happy to take on the Kili challenge for War Child.

It is a motivating challenge for someone at my age......to make life more bearable for some of these children.

On November 23 I turned 50, and I feel this is a good time to give something special back.

What could be better than climbing to the roof of Africa for War Child?

On January 12, 2020 I will start in the jungle at the foot of the Kilimanjaro with temperatures of 25 degrees and after 5.5 days I hope to stand on the Uhuru Peak at -15 degrees.

To be frank it is also a wonderful adventure for myself and challenging to push my limits.

As I am not a regular climber I will be working over the next three months to prepare my condition to be more mountain-proof.

I understand that it is a luxury that I am in the right place to be able to make this journey and I realize this very well. That it is a gift to myself.

The cost of the trip, the blood, sweat and tears of the preparation and the trip are entirely for my account.

100% of every Euro I raise will go to War Child. It would be great if you could sponsor me.

My goal is to raise 1 Euro for every meter of Kilimanjaro - so 5.895 Euros (but thanks to all the generous donations so far I have crossed this goal, but more money for kids is always welcome) . So I also encourage you to give generously.

I will have my own Kili-challenge, but every day is a challenge for those children overtaken by conflict.

Children are always innocent!
